Dinosaur DIY Terrarium for Kids

If your kids LOVE dinosaurs as much as mine then I highly recommend making a dinosaur terrarium with them.

This activity is DOUBLE the FUN! Best of all its a super simple project that can be completed in about 10 minutes, and is perfect for a variety of ages. First you get to go on a nature walk and forge for your greenery, once your home you get to create a super cool Dino habitat.

This can double as center piece and you can get creative and change it up with each outdoor adventure. Alternatively you can change themes by adding some mini bugs or other toys depending your your child’s interests.

I got my inspiration for this activity from fellow blogger Merrylann of @adashofmerry who created a Tundra Biome with her daughter. As well as by a DIY terrarium kit my sister in-law once gave our middle son.

Dinosaur Terrarium

I happened to have this glass cookie jar just begging to be used for something besides sugary treats, but you can use any type of terrarium you want. I’ve seen a ton of different glass jars and bowls you can use for a project like this.

Step 1 – Go on a nature walk

Start off by heading out to your local green space to pick your greenery of choice. We chose ferns and moss for ours. You can add as much or as little as you like.

After you’ve returned from your outdoor adventure, napped, eaten lunch or warmed up with a hot chocolate, you are ready to start your terrarium.

Step 2 – Add your Moss

Add chosen greenery to your chosen terrarium vessel, and adjust to your liking.

Step 3 – Time to Add Dinosaurs

Of course our main attraction, the DINOSAURS! ROAR! We picked a mixture of meat eaters and plant eaters but you can choose your favorites.
