This was my first year participating in the The BC Professional Firefighters’ Burn Fund 5km Santa Run. Sweets (My toddler) and I missed our annual Turkey Trot tradition, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to make up our missed 5km. Fire fighters, Santa, and running….. what could be better for a 3.5 year old boy?! Read on for my race recap.
What better way to kick off the festive season then with a scenic run through Stanley park in a Santa suit?! In addition to the sharp Santa suit, all entrants receive a post race cookie, hot chocolate, and a race-day ride on the Stanley Park Christmas Train.
If all of that wasn’t enough all proceeds from the Santa Run support the BC Professional Firefighters’ Burn Fund child and youth Burn Camps
The race
The sun was shinning and it was a beautiful morning, we really couldn’t have asked for a better day. With sunny skies it was a chilly -2, thankfully the Santa suits helped to keep runners warm.
Despite the snowsuit, winter jacket, 2 pairs of socks, hats, boots, blanket and rain screen my little Sweets was too cold. He cried to go home for the majority of the run. 🙁
Thank you to the two kind gentleman that stopped to provide us with pocket warmers. I was a frazzled mom and I didn’t get a chance to properly thank you.

Post Race Fun!
We waited in line for our cookie, which were delicious. We skipped the hot chocolate because the line was too long for Sweets. After I wrestled the stroller back into the car and Sweets had a Mommy snuggle he decided he wanted to ride the Stanley Park Christmas Train after all.
This ended up being a huge highlight for him! He was so excited and his spirits quickly turned around. After our train ride we even got to meet Santa, which helped kick off the holiday season for both of us.
On our drive home Sweets did reiterate that he is done both racing, and cheering. He will be staying home with Daddy in the future. Which is just as well, because pushing a 50lb + stroller up the hills of Stanley Park was no walk in the park for me. 😉
How about you, did you participate, I would love to hear your experience. Didn’t?? Mark it in your calendar for next year, and I’ll see you there.
